The Department of Life Safety and Healthy Lifestyle is the successor of the Department of Civil Defense, which was created and has been functioning since the foundation of the University in 1938. The department was headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Minchin G.L., Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Shamilev I.A., Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Aliev Sh.A., Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Dombaev M.D., Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Ayskhanov S.K. From 1972 to 1990, the department trained mid-level specialists in nursing. The Department of Civil Defense was tasked with providing students with knowledge: - about human health and hygienic factors that affect the physical, mental and social development of the individual; -development of the ability to conduct psychological diagnostics of the features of the cognitive and personal sphere and interpret the results, development of the ability to identify targets of psychocorrectional and psychotherapeutic work with children and adolescents; -implementation of measures to protect people and the environment from the negative impacts of emergency situations, natural and man-made, acts of terrorism; -ensuring the sustainability of the functioning of facilities (organizations) in routine and emergency situations; -organization of protection of production personnel and the population from the possible consequences of natural disasters, accidents, catastrophes, fires, terrorist acts. In 2011, the Department of Civil Defense was renamed and received the name of the Department of Extreme Medicine. The Department prepared new courses in the following disciplines: "Fundamentals of Medical Knowledge", "Life Safety", "Fundamentals of Pediatrics and Hygiene", "Clinical Psychology of Children and Adolescents", "Psychotherapy". In 2013, due to the optimization of the educational process, the department was renamed the Department of Life Safety and Healthy Lifestyle (Order No. 399/06 dated November 19, 2013). From that time until April 2018, the department was headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Aliyeva L.B. In April 2018, by Order No. 141/06, the Department of Life Safety and Healthy Lifestyle was renamed the Department of Life Safety and Disaster Medicine and transferred to the Medical Institute of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education Chechen State University. Currently, the head of the Department of Life Safety and Disaster Medicine is Candidate of Biological Sciences Dzhabrailov Yu.M.
