The department was founded in 1988 as the Department of Environmental Protection and Rational Use of Natural Resources, in 1995 it was renamed the Department of Rational Use of Natural Resources and Geoecology, since 2011 – the Department of Ecology and Nature Management. The mission of the department is to train competitive specialists who are in demand in the modern labor market: bachelors in the fields of study: 05.03.06 Ecology and Environmental Management (profile "Geoecology", "Monitoring and control of the environment"); 07.03.03 Architectural environment design (profile "Urban Environment Design"); 03/21/2011 Oil and gas business (profile "Geonavigation of oil and gas drilling"); Master's degree in Ecology and Environmental Management (focus (profile) "Environmental expertise and control"). The department carries out recruitment for postgraduate studies in the field of training highly qualified personnel in the scientific specialty 1.6.21. Geoecology. The Department actively participates in the implementation of the Strategic Academic Leadership Program "Priority 2030" and the climate project "Carbon Landfill". The main areas of scientific research of the scientific and pedagogical staff of the department are: Anthropogenic impacts on ecosystems, environmental monitoring, assessment of the impact of economic activity on the natural and anthropogenic environment and public health. The department has developed advanced training programs: "Modern problems of ecology and environmental management" (72 hours); "Environmental protection and environmental safety" (72 hours), "Expertise and environmental control" (36 hours), "Carbon landfills: monitoring, operation, control" (108 hours). A retraining program "Ecology and rational use of natural resources" (272 hours) has been developed.
